Massage has a connotation of relaxation. Massage can be performed on your head, face, neck, shoulders, back, chest, legs, hands and feet.

An individual may choose to get a massage either for relaxation or for health-related purposes, such as to increase blood flow or to treat sore muscles, ligaments or tendons.

Therefore, massage can also be seen as a healing process. Not only is massage good for your physical well-being, but massage has a positive influence on emotional and spiritual well-being as well. To care for one's body is to care for one's soul.


 

A massage therapist is also known as a masseuse. A masseuse may either be competent in all forms of massage, or may have chosen to specialise in a particular form of massage, such as:

  • - Acupressure massage
  • - Deep tissue massage
  • - Lymphatic drainage massage
